Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his position following another heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the club's poorest streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.

“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received a lot of backing from the top,” Slot commented.

“It's important to turn it around and get a victory of course but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”

He noted, “I accept my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”

Discussions with Club Management

Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the team officials, Slot explained:

“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “During our regular discussions I feel the belief. However I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”

Familiar Issues and Squad Response

Slot lamented known failings from his team in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.

“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a period of this nature with performances like these.”

He finished, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we will always battle.”

“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”

“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
