False Assertions on Social Media Damaged Brigitte Macron's Quality of Life, Daughter Testifies to Judges

The French first lady's child, her daughter, has told a tribunal in Paris that inaccurate assertions online—among them the groundless claim that she is transgender—have negatively impacted her mother's daily existence.

Auzière, a 41-year-old lawyer, was called as a testifier in the court case of 10 individuals accused of internet-based abuse targeting her mother.

Consequences on Personal Routine

She explained that the first lady now worries constantly about her demeanor, such as her fashion choices to the way she carries herself, as a result of the apprehension that each snapshot may be misused to support negative campaigns.

"The result is that she constantly needs to be careful to her clothing, her posture, regardless of she's doing in day-to-day existence," she told the court.

Defendants and Allegations

Ten individuals, aged 41 to 60, are facing charges for online harassment. A few had modest digital reach, while the rest were more prominent.

Each one is accused of spreading defamatory content about Brigitte Macron's gender and sexuality. For some, this extended to linking the age gap with her husband to inappropriate terms.

If found responsible, they may be sentenced to up to two years in incarceration.

Consequences for Loved Ones

She, a daughter from her mother's first marriage, described how the baseless rumors have resulted in a "worsening of her physical state" and a "deterioration of her overall existence".

She said, "Hardly a day goes by when a person fails to mention the issue to her."

She pointed out the repercussions on her relatives, for example the kids learning about malicious statements like "Your grandmother is lying" or "She is actually a man".

"She has no idea how to stop it," she stated. "She holds no office, she never asked for anything, and she is constantly experiencing these attacks."

Court Case History

The Paris trial represents a recent development in a broader legal battle targeting the baseless theory that she is male.

They have also filed a legal action in the United States over false statements against a conservative podcaster who promoted the allegation.

The case states that the claim is totally unfounded and notes that the person cited is actually her older brother.

Accused Individuals' Statements

Throughout the proceedings, some of the accused denied the charges.

  • One defendant, now a deputy mayor, asserted he "did not mean to cause harm" and described his posts as satirical.
  • Another defendant claimed that his social media shares were intended as "irony" and voiced worry that the case could undermine "free speech".
  • An art gallery owner said he posted content as he believed it was a worldwide topic with "consequences for France".

Personal History

The inaccurate claim regarding Brigitte Macron's gender gained traction partly because their union has frequently been a point of interest on the internet.

She, aged significantly older than Emmanuel Macron, initially encountered the future president when working as a educator at the institution he attended.

Their relationship grew through the school's theatre programme, and they wed in that year, following Brigitte Macron's divorce.

Auzière wrapped up her testimony by stating that the false claims have created a "chaos that continues endlessly" for the first lady.
