Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone in the area of the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any damage is uncertain and the United States has not commented.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - reported they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

IRGC Statement

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted areas linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with notable success and shot down a number of missiles," it added.

Officials reported debris fell on a neighborhood in the capital, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
