New York Jets Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the player will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was âpositiveâ during their latest talk.
âThatâs what eases my mind, is that heâs in good spirits,â Glenn said Wednesday. âHis wife and his kid, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.â
It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he is reported as critical but stable.
âNot certain at the moment,â the coach said. âBut I will say this, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. Furthermore, thatâs what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.â
Authorities shared security footage Monday of a man sought in the incident involving Boyd. What prompted the attack is currently under review and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. No other injuries according to reports.
The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday morning in the area between Madison Square Garden and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a local hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The shooter fled the scene.
Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind âconstantlyâ since the news broke. The coach said that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a baby.
âMy initial concern, he has a new baby,â Glenn said. âMy mind went to his family, Iâm thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that heâs OK. And thatâs the only thing that really went through my mind.
âThere is a procedure involved, Iâll keep private, but Iâm happy at the fact that he will recover excellently.â
Boyd hasnât played in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair.
He joined the Jets as a new signing in March and was projected as a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on August 2 and was taken away on a cart.
Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while working his way back.
âHeâs been a part of what weâre doing,â Glenn said. âIn fact, he attends every game. Heâs fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, heâs done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.â
Boyd, from Texas, began his career with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of UT in 2019. He joined Arizona in 2023 and later was with the Texans later that season. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
