The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes several notable adjustments:
- Every squad includes only eight real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by real players award full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides more options for gamers seeking different ways to enjoy the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are mad.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while someone else lists everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Community Input
All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove XP farming from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
If the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
