The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
